Rainbow Institute of Communication is a centre of excellence in Communication, English and Soft Skills. From 2010, onwards, we have empowered those who came our way to become impactful communicators, critical thinkers, and inspiring personalities through practical, people-focused training programmes. Our hall mark is that we maintain high level international benchmarks, underlined with Sri Lankan warmth and hospitality.

Our Story
Rainbow Institute of Communication began with a simple belief: everyone deserves to optimise his/ her talents and make a positive impact in society. From children taking their first steps in communication, to youth discovering their voice, to senior professionals aiming to inspire and lead, we have pursued our mission to build leaders of all ages who are confident communicators.
The name Rainbow Institute reflects our belief in inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunity, bringing together learners from varied backgrounds to grow through communication and language with guidance of our expert trainers, Like a magnificent rainbow that emerges after challenges and storms, we empower individuals to discover their strengths and move confidently towards a brighter future.
Our journey has been about more than teaching words, it’s about transforming lives. Through practical, interactive, and personalised training, we help each individual learner to express themselves with ease, think critically, and connect with impact.
In spite of facing myriad challenges as we go forward, our motivation is seeing the fruit of our labour in the transformed lives of our students as they shine in contributing to the betterment of their communities, country and the world.

Dr. Mahim Mendis
Chief Academic Advisor - Hony
Organizational Communication and Good Governance Specialist
Dr. Mahim Mendis is a highly respected academic, trainer, and activist with over three decades of experience in higher education, professional training, and organizational development. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore, with postgraduate qualifications from leading universities in the United Kingdom. He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Open University of Sri Lanka and has been deeply involved in teaching, research, and academic leadership throughout his career. Beyond academia, Dr. Mendis is widely recognised for his exceptional training skills. He is a master facilitator who combines strong subject knowledge with clarity, structure, and real-world relevance. His training style is interactive, reflective, and practical, enabling participants to think critically, communicate confidently, and apply learning immediately in professional contexts. He has conducted hundreds of high-impact training programmes for universities, corporate institutions, public sector bodies, civil society organisations, and international agencies. As Chief Academic Adviser at the Rainbow Institute of Communication, Dr. Mendis plays a key role in curriculum development, trainer mentoring, and quality assurance. His work continues to shape confident communicators, ethical leaders, and reflective professionals across Sri Lanka, making a lasting impact on individuals and institutions alike.

Mahishka Fernando
Director Academic Affairs
Mahishka Fernando is the co-founder and Director of the Rainbow Institute of Communication, where she has helped thousands of children, youth, and professionals become confident communicators and leaders. She brings deep expertise in curriculum development, training of trainers, and programme design, creating interactive and practical learning experiences that deliver measurable results. Mahishka has conducted training for corporates, schools, and NGOs, including Bank of Ceylon, Hilton Hotel, Fonterra Brands, and USAID, and has designed innovative programmes in public speaking, English language training, and personality development. She also serves as Content Lead for Selve, an AI-driven spoken English app, and is an Australia Awards Scholar in Executive Leadership for Women. Known for her personalized, engaging, and results-focused approach, she empowers learners to communicate with clarity, confidence, and professional presence.

Lenita Durairajah
Operations and HR Manager
Lenita Durairaja is an experienced professional with a strong background in education, childcare, and operations management. With over two decades in Montessori and preschool teaching, she has nurtured creativity, resilience, and confidence in young learners, while her leadership roles have focused on mentoring and empowering women for personal and professional growth. Fluent in English, Tamil, and Sinhala, Lenita connects effortlessly across cultures and age groups.

Aathmika Mahasenan
Business Development and Social Media Executive
Aathmika Mahasenan is a creative professional with a flair for business development, social media, and digital content creation. She has worked with leading organizations like AB Mauri Lanka and Echelon/Economynext, and now brings her passion for fresh ideas and impactful communication to the Rainbow Institute of Communication. Skilled in content writing, social media strategy, graphic design, and video and photo production, she combines creativity with strategic thinking. A certified digital marketing professional and a graduate of SLIM’s Diploma in Digital Marketing, she is passionate about storytelling and crafting content that engages audiences and creates real impact.

Manique Mendis
Executive Director
Communication Expert/ Trainer
Manique Mendis is an experienced communication specialist and trainer with extensive experience across government, private, and international organizations. She has served as CEO of several organizations, including the Press Complaints Commission and the Business for Peace Alliance, bringing strategic leadership and deep sector knowledge to every role. As Executive Director at Rainbow Resources Lanka and the Rainbow Institute of Communication, she designs and delivers programmes in public speaking, professional communication, and personality development. Her training is highly interactive, practical, and tailored to help participants communicate with confidence, think critically, and present themselves with poise. Manique combines academic grounding with hands-on experience, empowering individuals and organizations to achieve impact through clear, effective, and ethical communication.

Dinuka Fernando
Project Manager/ Trainer
Dinuka Fernando brings over 20 years of international and local experience across communication, sales, and marketing. Having lived abroad for most of his life, he completed his primary to tertiary education in Australia and Dubai, earning qualifications from RMIT, Melbourne and CIM. He has worked across diverse industries, including hospitality, tourism, advertising, event management, automobile, and entertainment, with organizations such as HSBC, Aman Resorts, Ford Motor Company, and served as a communication/media liaison for the International Cricket Council (ICC). Dinuka joined Rainbow Institute in 2019 and has designed and conducted communication training programmes for corporates and institutions including Mobitel, the Sri Lanka Army, Hayleys Group, Alliance Finance, ChildFund, Sabaragamuwa University, and Sampath Bank. Known for his practical approach and ability to connect with participants, he empowers professionals to communicate with clarity, confidence, and impact.

Vaishalini Kumaram
Project Coordinator
Vaishalini Kumaran is a passionate and driven undergraduate pursuing a Law degree at the Royal Institute of Colombo. A former student of Bishop’s College, Colombo, she has excelled both academically and in leadership, earning multiple awards for outstanding achievement and all-round excellence. Currently working as a Project Coordinator for the SKIP youth development project at the Rainbow Institute of Communication, Vaishu brings creativity, dedication, and strong organizational skills to every task.

Sharuni Weerasinghe
Project Coordinator
Sharuni Weerasinghe is the National Coordinator of the SKIP Youth Development Project and a certified trainer from the Rainbow Institute, having completed the Trainer of Trainers programme. A passionate communicator and Zonta Leadership Award winner, she previously served as Interact President at Bishop’s College. Sharuni brings a rich mix of experience to her training—from voice coaching at leading music academies, to writing for the Daily Mirror, and winning international performance awards. Known for her energy, empathy, and practical insights, she inspires and equips youth and professionals to communicate confidently, think critically, and engage meaningfully in every session.
